So the farm is doing good .

We have horses and ducks now. The goats are good and they are loving the cooler air . The horses love the grass and they love the attention they get. The goats love their food too and they go nuts over the feed. The chickens are giving us a lot of eggs and we are geting 10 eggs a day from 20 chickens.  I have one rooster that is in his own pen and his name is Rocky and he is a barred rock that crows at 4:00 am. The ducks LOVE water. The garden is doing good .  We are geting a lot of stuff, like squash and cucumbers and tomatoes.  We have accidental pumpkins growing in our compost pile.  I do the chores at 7:30pm. The goats get 17 percent goat feed and the chickens get egg layer feed. The ducks get duck feed and the horses get 12 percnt horse feed.  The goats love hay .  The horses love hay too.  I hope you have a nice day!!!!!!!!

      Hi   I am so sorry I am not posting much I am busy on my farm.

So lets talk about goat heath.  so goat bloat is when a goat eats to much rich green grass and they cry out in pain.  goats can get lung worm. lung worm is when goats have worms in the lungs.
goats can get foot rot . foot rot is when the hoof is rotting .what you have to do for foot rot is you trim the hooves . goats can get tetanus. tetanus  is when a goat gets cut.

Chicken health chickens can get egg bound. Egg bound is when the chicken has  a egg stuck in the vent.
What you do for egg bound is you put preparation H up the vent and the egg will pass.
you can sock the hen in worm water for 20 minutes . Chicken can get peritonitis that is when the egg does not have a yolk.  And what you do is  you have to put the chicken to sleep. chickens can have heat strokes.

Fall eggs

It has been a very busy summer.  I am back to school and have lots to tell you about my farm.
I got my goats.  Their names are blackberry and Jack.  They are both make goats, which means I can not milk them.  They love bean plants and treats.  They love to get brushed and have tons of attention.  Tons!

We have gotten more meat birds and have butchered them and sold most of them.  They taste so good and it is good to know where your food is coming from.
We just ordered more meat birds and a show bird.  I'll talk about my show bird later.
We decided to get a few regular fast growing  cornish cross meat birds and also we are going to try some dark cornish slower growing meat birds this time.  We will see if they taste different.

So I am getting a show bird.  It is a Silver gray Dorking hen.  Her name is going to be Daisy.

I am excited to get her because they are a calm breed of chicken.  They are very good with children and should be a great show bird.  I am going to show the bird at the Allegany County Fair next summer.
The egg layers have been busy laying eggs.  We have gotten between 8-10 eggs per day.  My girls like to free range all day and eat bugs, grass and worms.  They are so fun to watch.  Sometimes they take dust baths and it looks like they are flopping around, but they are just kicking dirt up.
We built a Rooster house for our 2 roosters.  This will be for our breeding stock.  I have Rocky. He is a pure bred barred rock rooster. His temperament is so calm.  Our other rooster is Spock. He is aggressive and attacks you when you go in the pen.  He is a silkie so he is real fluffy.

Happy Summer

I'm back.   I'm so sorry I haven't posted lately.  I have been very busy with my farm and school.   We just finished our school today so my summer has started.

We changed our plans on the farm.  We now have meat birds as well as our egg layers.  Last week we butchered our first round of meat birds.  It went well and it was fun.  It was fun when it was over.
My dad built a plucker but the motor was to small for the size of the birds.  He is going to get a bigger motor.    Our meat birds weighed almost 4 pounds by the time we stuck them in the freezer.  They are going to taste yummy.  After we eat one, we will have the next round for sale.

This week I am getting goats.  They are two wethered goats, which means they are castrated males, they can't breed.  Their names are Jack and Blackberry.   Jack is a \Saanan and Blackberry is a French Alpine.
My dad and I are getting the goat pasture ready.   Yesterday we were outside looking for electric rope fence from our old horse pasture.  We collected enough rope for the goat pasture.   We need to put in the fence posts today and then attach the fence.   Then it can get hooked to the electric so they won't get out.  I don't want them to get out because they will eat my moms flowers.

The egg layer business has been going really good.   We got a few new chickens.  One is a black australorp.  Her name is Annie.  My sister got a silky bantam, her name is Spock.  She also has two small bantams.  Their names are Duke and Zeke.
We have been getting 9-10 eggs per day.    I sell them for $2.00 per dozen.  I also sell shirts and hats now.   The t-shirts are $15.00 and the hats are $10.00
We give our chickens lots of treats, such as watermelon, cantalope, bread and corn and Kale.
Oh, I forgot to tell you that my most favorite chicken died because of a fox.  Her name was Hannah.

We put a fan down at the chicken coop to keep them cool.   The meat birds get over-heated and can have heart attacks.  They are just fat and lazy.

Pet fish

So I have not been not posting because  we are in Florida and I have not been on my farm.
Now on to the fish I have.  I have Guppies, they are fish that you do not eat. I also have Neon Tetras
and two Cory catfish.   Guppies breed easily and give birth to live babies.   Neon Tetras lay eggs on
plants.
My guppy mama gave birth to 18 babies since I have had her.  Only 9 survived because the mom
Guppy eats them if she catches them.   We tried a breeder tank, but that didn't work because the
Babies kept swimming out.
While I am in Florida, my dad is taking care of the fish and chickens and dog and cats.

I have been riding my bike, going to the beach and walking on the nature trail here in Florida.

Goats!

Hi everyone.  I am so sorry for not posting for a very long time.  I have been very busy with my Daniels Fresh Eggs business and school so I haven't had time to post.

Today I want to talk about goats.
So I am getting two goats next year.  Actually in the spring.   Their names are going to be Prince and Daisy.

Prince is a peer-bred Lamancha  neutered male.  I found him at Lolly Pop Farm in Rochester, NY.

A Lamancha goat is a very docile breed.  They are a non-meat goat.  They are a dairy breed, but Prince is a male so we can't milk him.  We can't breed him because he is fixed.

When we went to LollyPop Farm, Prince immediately came over to me and wanted me to pet him and walked with me and followed me around.  

I would like to find a Saanan breed.  I will name her Daisy.  I would like to find one in milk.  That means that I would be able to get milk from her right away.  If she isn't in milk, then I would have to breed her and after she had a baby, then she would give milk.  I would cross her with a Lamancha buck.  

Goats can be out in cold weather.  Even down to 12 degrees.  They don't like to be wet though.  

Goats sleep about 5 hours a day.   Dogs sleep about 10 hours a day.  

When I get my goats, I will post pictures on my blog.

Winter Chickens

Since winter is finally getting here, it is getting colder out, we are going to talk about how to keep chickens throughout the winter, so they can lay, lay, lay all winter long.

We have our chickens in a round metal chicken coup.  We have put a blue tarp over part of the chicken run so the snow and rain won't get in the door.  Also, it provides shade on sunny days.
Inside the chicken coup, we laid down a thick coat of pine needles and then a thick coat of straw to build up the base to keep the ladies warm.  We will have to change out the bedding weekly.  The chickens usually poop right by the door so that makes it easier to clean, we won't have to change all of the bedding, just the stuff with a lot of poop on it.
We have to check the water frequently to make sure it doesn't freeze solid.  If it is a light coating of ice, the chickens can peck through it, but they won't if it is thick.  They eat more during the winter and colder months because they need to stay warm and eating helps them do that.  So you have to make sure their feed stays full.  We also give them table scraps and extra veggies to give them extra yummy stuff to eat.  They love pumpkins and squash.

The chickens will still lay eggs during the winter as long as they stay healthy. Their production will go down, but we have been getting about 3-6 eggs a day still.  Probably during the late winter we won't get as many eggs because the chickens need sunshine to lay lots of eggs and here in NY we don't get much sun in the winter.  If the eggs freeze, it is ok to eat them still.  They will thaw in the refrigerator.
